The D. H. Jackson Long-Term Disaster Recovery Committee, Inc. is based on the principles of David Hamilton Jackson to support those that are less fortunate. Our mission is to provide long-term recovery services to individuals, families and local community businesses and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of citizens in the United States and its Territories during all phases of disaster recovery.
The purpose of the D. H. Jackson Long-Term Disaster Recovery Committee, Inc are set forth in its bylaws in accordance with Title 13, Chapter 3 of the Virgin Islands Code and it is incorporated as a non-profit organization, to establish and maintain a network within and on behalf of the faith-based, non-profit, governmental, business and other organizations and agencies which will provide a coordinated response and recovery effort to communities affected by disasters.
The organization will provide leadership and coordinated management of long-term recovery to residents and businesses. It will also provide additional long-term assistance to individuals and/or businesses affected by the disaster who do not have adequate personal resources for basic needs because of the disasters.
In addition, it has a responsibility to provide spiritual, emotional, physical and financial resources to those affected by the disaster regardless of race, creed, color, gender, sexual orientation, disability or religious preference.
The corporation was also formed to encourage and promote social and educational enrichment to at-risk teenagers and provide citizens with crisis trauma support caused by disasters in the following;
To promote closer fellowship among citizens;
To encourage citizens to demand better social and economic conditions for themselves;
To foster a sense of belonging and loyalty to their community;
To determine ways in which citizens can contribute to the economic, social, and cultural progress of the community;
To provide legislative information for better understanding of the impact caused by the disaster on the community;
To sponsor and coordinate conferences to inform community members of its challenges, its needs, its plans, and its progress towards fulfillment of its goals;
To plan and implement social and cultural activities;
To maintain direct lines of communication with government officials, the private sector, and grassroots organizations to plan jointly for the betterment of the community;
To coordinate logistical support to affected communities; and
To exercise all the powers of Associations formed under the United States Virgin Islands Nonprofit Association Act which are necessary or convenient in order to accomplish the above described purposes, including, but not limited to, the power to accept donations of money, property, whether real or personal, or any interest therein, wherever situated, or any other thing of value.
The organization is registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) of the Federal Government for Award of contracts. It is listed as D.H Jackson Long Term Disaster Recovery Committee Inc
